I am not in-network with any insurance company. My practice is exclusively out-of-network, and patients may also pay privately. I can provide documentation for you to submit to your insurer; reimbursement is not guaranteed. Please inquire about current availability.

Before beginning treatment: insurance and financial responsibility

Beginning psychoanalysis or couples therapy is both a personal and a financial commitment. I encourage you to understand your insurance benefits and the cost of treatment before arranging an initial appointment.

My practice is exclusively out-of-network. I am not an in-network provider with any insurance company. You are responsible for paying my session fees, whether or not your insurance plan reimburses you.

What to ask your insurance company

If you intend to seek reimbursement, call the member services number on your insurance card and ask:

  1. Does my plan cover out-of-network outpatient mental health services?
  2. What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much remains?
  3. After the deductible, how much will my plan reimburse per session, and is that based on an allowed amount rather than the full fee?
  4. Are there limits on visits, prior authorization requirements, or other restrictions?
  5. Is couples therapy covered under my particular plan, and under what circumstances?
  6. What documentation and claim submission steps are required?

Ask your insurer to explain what you would be responsible for paying yourself. Coverage for couples therapy in particular can vary by plan and the clinical circumstances.

Payment and reimbursement

Patients pay my fees directly. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide documentation to submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement. Your insurance company determines whether and how much it will reimburse; reimbursement is not guaranteed. You may also choose to pay privately without using insurance.

Once you have reviewed your benefits and feel comfortable with the financial commitment, please contact me to discuss the possibility of beginning treatment.
